Denver Nuggets beloved Hall of Fame center, Nikola Jokic was famously drafted during a Taco Bell commercial (video here) as the 41st overall pick in the SECOND round of the 2014 NBA Draft. He since has earned multiple All-Star selections and became the NBA's Most Valuable Player in the 2020-2021 season, eventually leading the Denver Nuggets to their first ever NBA Championship in 2023. Why is this in any way relevant to the the Denver Broncos?
As my Dad put it, after reading about the Broncos options at QB given the cap issues, we are completely f*cked. UNLESS, a mid round draft pick that is so unheard of the broadcast is comfortable with letting Taco Bell get a quick word in instead of broadcasting him getting drafted into the NFL, becomes an absolute home run.
Quick recap of Russell Wilson's 2023 season:
Games Played: 15
Completion %: 66.4%
Passing Yards: 3,070 (204.7ypg)
TD/INT: 26/8
QB rating: 98
No matter how you feel about Wilson, you can't convince me there's a QB we can afford that is better than Russell Wilson? Gardner Minshew? Jamies Winston? Jacoby Brisett?? That's a total joke. Do I think Russell did great this year? No, not GREAT. However, it was another year of a new HC and big changes in the offensive system. He progressed massively from his season with Hackett. We should have never given up on Russ. Now we will pay him some $30M to not play as we can't afford a player half his caliber. Not to mention half the person he is as a man and leader.
The Denver Broncos haven't had a playoff appearance since their SB50 win in 2015. Over 8 years now. Expect that number to increase unless the Broncos find their own HOF mid round draft pick like their neighbor Nuggets.
