The Broncos ARE Winning the AFC West

​ The title tells it all. The Denver Broncos will win the AFC West. They took a defense that was top 5 for the majority of the 2024 season and added absolute dawgs in the areas of weakness. They did this without losing anyone significant to the defense as well. They added a tight end who was the top free agent tight end this offseason. They have a franchise quarterback entering year 2. Wide receivers who have been developing into true threats on the field and the freedom to select the best player available in this year’s draft. The one glaring issue is the running back position, but let’s not assume that Payton and Paton don’t know how important it is to nail that position this offseason. In fact, let’s go ahead and assume they do nail the position and instead of it being a reason we can’t win games, it becomes a reason we do win some games.

​This team, on paper, is the most well-rounded team the Denver Broncos have1 fielded since the 2012 season. A season that should have resulted in a Super Bowl appearance, and almost assuredly a win, if it had not been for Rahim Moore jumping for a pass one step too soon. A double overtime later and the hopes of a Super Bowl appearance were dashed before we could even get to the AFC Championship. The 2025 Denver Broncos have the same feeling about it, and we haven’t even gotten to the draft yet. The defensive starters will strike fear in opposing offenses and the offense has the chance to see Quarterback Bo Nix take even more steps forward in his development into a top talent in the NFL.

​I point out that the team is well-rounded on paper for a reason. How many teams have been heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl before the season starts only to suffer injuries, or simply have a bad season, and end up missing the playoffs altogether? It’s not common, but it’s not rare either. At least one team falls incredibly short of expectations every year and the Denver Broncos’ expectations are raised from last year, giving them less to gain and a lot more to lose. The 2024 season started out with fans, myself included, just hoping to see something from Bo Nix that said he could be the guy in a few years and we ended the season shouting about being in the playoffs. Ending an 8-year losing streak and a 9-year playoff draught in Bo Nix’ rookie campaign.

The Broncos exceeded expectations last season by a lot. If we raise the bar reasonably then we should expect another wild card playoff berth and at least one playoff win, but rationality has no place in sports fandom. Therefore, I’m ready to declare that the Denver Broncos will unseat the Kansas City Chiefs for sole ownership of the AFC West title and achieve a minimum of 2 playoff wins. Now its time for some bold predictions about this roster: Evan Engram will go for over 1,000 yards and 10+ touchdowns, Bo Nix will throw for 40+ touchdowns and 4,000+ yards, Courtland Sutton will eclipse 1,500 yards for the first time in his career, Troy Franklin will become the go to deep threat with a drop rate under 1%, the defense will amass 70+ sacks, resetting the record for the second straight year, and have 20+ INT’s.

Now, I realize most of these declarations have a very low probability of happening, that’s what makes them bold predictions. The talent is there to achieve all of these. If the players show up, stay healthy, trust the process and do their jobs then each of my predictions will come to fruition. It’s an exciting time to be a Denver Broncos fan and I for one can’t wait for the season to start because … The Denver Broncos will WIN the AFC West.
